چکیده

We present a systematical analysis of uncertainties in the helioseismological determination of quantities characterizing the solar structure. We discuss the effect of errors on the measured frequencies, the residual solar model dependence and the uncertainties of the inversion method. We find Y ph = 0.238 − 0.259, R b /R ⊙ = 0.708 − 0.714 and ρ b = (0.185 − 0.199) gr/cm 3 (the index b refers to the bottom of the convective envelope). In the interval 0.2 < R/R ⊙ < 0.65, the quantity U =P/ρ is determined with and accuracy of ±5 • / • • or better. The predictions of a few recent solar model calculations are compared with helioseismological results.

Helioseismology and Solar Abundances

Helioseismology has allowed us to study the structure of the Sun in unprecedented detail. One of the triumphs of the theory of stellar evolution was that helioseismic studies had shown that the structure of solar models is very similar to that of the Sun. However, this agreement has been spoiled by recent revisions of the solar heavy-element abundances. Heavy element abundances determine the op...

The Implications for Helioseismology of Experimental Uncertainties in Newton’s Constant

The experimental uncertainties in G between different experiments have important implications for helioseismology. We show that these uncertainties for the standard solar model lead to a range in the value of the square of the sound speed in the nuclear region that is as much as 0.15% higher than the inverted helioseismic sound speed. While a lower value of G is preferred for the standard model...

Imaging the Solar Tachocline by Time-Distance Helioseismology

The solar tachocline at the bottom of the convection zone is an important region for the dynamics of the Sun and the solar dynamo. In this region, the sound speed inferred by global helioseismology exhibits a bump of approximately 0.4% relative to the standard solar model. Global helioseismology does not provide any information on possible latitudinal variations or asymmetries between the North...

Are Standard Solar Models Reliable?

The sound speeds of solar models that include element diffusion agree with helioseismological measurements to a rms discrepancy of better than 0.2% throughout almost the entire Sun. Models that do not include diffusion, or in which the interior of the Sun is assumed to be significantly mixed, are effectively ruled out by helioseismology. Standard solar models predict the measured properties of ...

New Solar Composition: The Problem With Solar Models Revisited

We construct updated solar models with different sets of solar abundances, including the most recent determinations by Asplund et al. (2009). The latter work predicts a slightly larger solar metallicity compared to previous measurements by the same authors but significantly lower than the recommended value from a decade ago. The new solar models incorporate an updated equation of state and new ...

The Solar Neutrino Problem - An Update

The B solar neutrino flux that has recently been measured by SuperKamiokande is consistent with the Ar production rate in Cl at Homestake. The gallium solar neutrino experiments, GALLEX and SAGE, continue to observe Ge production rates in Ga that are consistent with the minimal signal expected from the solar luminosity. The observed B solar neutrino flux is in good agreement with that predicted...
